About this work

Description

Advertisements for Burroughs Wellcome & Co and their products, which appeared in The Lancet, 1917-1926.

The Guardbook offers a good indication of the range of Burroughs Wellcome & Co products manufactured in this period, and also illustrates how their advertising made reference to the First World War

At the bottom of many of the advertisements are illustrated accounts of historical scenes. Although never overtly described as such, these historical descriptions illustrate Henry Wellcome's deep interest in history which led him to open a Historical Medical Museum.

The volume has been conserved, items have been removed from the original Guardbook and remounted in sleeves and ringbinders. This enables researchers to easily read items (front and reverse) without damage to the original. The original order has been retained.

Due to the size of the original Guardbook it has been split into 3 albums:

WF/M/GB/09/11/01:
pp1-68
WF/M/GB/09/11/02:
pp68-168
WF/M/GB/09/11/03:
