About this work

Description

A view from the sea towards the coast of Trabzon. On the Black Sea are fishing boats full of sailors wearing northern clothes, and merchant ships. Behind the town, the rugged terrain of the Kaçkar Mountains is seen

Trabzon (Trebizond) is a city on the Black Sea coast of north-eastern Turkey and the capital of Trabzon Province. It was the centre of an international trade route to Iran in the southeast and the Caucasus to the northeast. Venetian and Genoese merchants traded silk, linen and woollen fabric there, and the Republic of Genoa had a merchant colony within the city (Leonkastron)
