About this work

Description

Photomacrograph of the head of a mosquito (unknown species). Mosquitoes are small flying insects which belong to the family culicidae. They are insect vectors which can carry and transmit some tropical diseases such as malaria, dengue and yellow fever. Female mosquitoes use their proboscis (needle-like modified mouthpart) to pierce the skin of humans or animals to feed on their blood in order to make their eggs. Width of image is 1 cm.
