    Appendix J Aspergillus notes 1. Tungsten wire needles Tungsten wire (cleaned and annealed—0.012 inch diameter) is obtainable from Johnson, Matthey & Co. Ltd., 73 Hatton Garden, London, E.C.i. Extremely fine-pointed needles are made by dipping end of wire into molten NaN02 until end has been eroded to fine point. 2. Wire replicators Cut out two squares (10 cm) of Perspex or plexiglass (2 mm thick) and cut off corners (1,5 cm). Drill one square with 33 holes to take steel dress¬ making pins and ensure a tight fit, countersinking to accommodate head. Holes should be in form of a 5 cm X 5 cm square with an additional 8 holes outside the square so as to make full use of the area available on a circular petri dish. After inserting pins, the second square is stuck on top with chloroform to hold pins in place. A template of cardboard for marking dishes can easily be made, viz. : 235
