About this work
Description
Dr. Mark Porter visits HMP Chelmsford in order to see how the health needs of prisoners are being met. His investigation covers how psychiatric illnesses are dealt with as well as physiological problems. In November 2000 Chelmsford prison was described as a 'sick' institution. Since then, govenors and health care workers at the prison have been working to reverse that judgment and in July 2004, a modern Healthcare centre opened at the prison. We hear from both staff and prisoners about how things have changed at the prison since the centre opened.
