Description

Identified as St Jerome in an inscription in pencil on the mount of the impression catalogued ("St. Gerome; engraving on wood by Luke Clennell."), but an inscription on the British Museum's impression identifies it as the hermit in 'The hermit of Warkworth, a Northumberland tale, in three parts, by Dr Thomas Percy', 1771 The arched door approached by steps on the left of the print is a feature of the Hermitage at Warkworth, Northumbria
