About this work

Description

Poster advertising General Mite's performances at the Imperial Theatre, Westminster, London, possibly during 1882. He had previously appeared before Queen Victoria. Born Francis Joseph Flynn on October 6th 1864, in Greene, New York, he married Emily "Millie" Edwards in 1884 and were jointly known as the Royal American Midgets. The poster shows Mite "actual life-size" in formal, evening dress with top hat and cane standing on a man's hand to accentuate his size. The poster is printed in black and burgundy on white paper. A similar poster of Millie Edwards exists (EPH:++45).
