Reafoning from preconceived opinions, and vague hypo- thefes, has given place to coriclufions founded upon the induction of facts which are either felf-obvious, or eftablilhed by the fure tell of experiment. .Guided by this unerring plan, truth has been made to triumph over error,—affumed theories, unfupported by facts, are in a great mea- fure banifhed,—and the fciences, and arts connected with them, are refpectively ar¬ rived at a degree of perfection proportion¬ ed to the extent in which fuch a mode of cultivation has been purfued. It is however very generally admitted, and it is much to be regretted, that the fame obfervations cannot with juftice be applied to Medicine.
