    Tliis mirror is indispensable to dentists, to enable them easily and correctly to ascertain tlie caries or decay situated on the internal surface of the teeth. The gliiss is oval, and should be concave for the purpose of enlarging objects. It is set in silver, and turns upon two branches fixed to a handle. Every person ought to possess one, and many consider the apparatus of their toilette incomplete without it. The way to examine one’s o\vn teeth in every direction, is, to stand before a looking-glass, then to place the dentist's mirror so as to reflect in the former the part wanted to be brought under view, and in the looking-glass \vill be seen what the mirror Is reflecting. Such inspection of tlie masticators requires a Uttlo practice; but many perfonn it with great facility. Aa it is of conse<juence to find out cavities, however small, as nfton as they occur in the teeth, tlie dentist’s mirror should be held in the left hand during the inspection, and a siiarp pointed piece of steel bent at an angle in tiio right, which is to be jiassed slowly over all tlie black or decayed hxpking f»ans, in order to detect the openings on the surfaces of the teeth.
