About this work

Description

The new vessels seen here on the human iris are illustrated using the technique anterior segment fluorescein angiography. In the image there are areas of Hyperfluorescence which means higher than normal fluorescence (white) is present. Causes of this hyperfluorescence can be neovascularization i.e., the growth of new blood vessels as illustrated here. Fluorescein angiography involves an injection of sodium fluorescein dye into a vein in the arm, the eye is photographed as the dye travels through the blood vessels within it.
