About this work

Description

Tentativo per provare il moto della terra con alcune observationi. Fatto da Robberto Hooke, Compagno della Societa Reale ... Londra. Stampato da T.R. per Giovanni Martin ... [1674 erased]. Illustrated by two folding plates containing partly coloured pen-drawn diagrams. A translation of Hooke's first Cutlerian Lecture, 1674 (see Keynes, 16). On the first leaf there is a note in Italian by a 19th cent. owner concerning a Latin translation of the work by William Nicolson in 1679, which is preserved in the Biblioteca Nazionale at Florence, under No. 543. 13a. At the end of the text is the name 'Fra Gesualdo Rossini' which is almost certainly the same as that struck through on the t.p.; he may have been the translator.
