    and taken into account before any practical de¬ cision is arrived at. Our own predilections ought to be entirely dismissed. We ought to consider the matter as if we were visitors from some distant planet called on to give our opinion as to the effect of alcohol on the health and life of the people, and to state the best means of preventing the injury which has long existed as a consequence of the presence of alcohol in many of their national beverages. Is it too much to hope that sanitarians may arrive at practical conclusions with some approach to unanimity ?
