Description
Said to be set in Ireland, but in emulation of Scottish works by David Wilkie; a painting by F. Goodall of a similar composition, dated 1847, is known as "The Irish piper" (Victoria and Albert Museum). The piper's audience is a family consisting of a young woman, three children and an old woman. Among the details of the interior are the old woman's spectacles resting on an open bible, left
