BFI catalogue indicates a date of 1950; the BMA catalogue suggests 1935? The BUFVC catalogue indicates 1940 (but this data was derived from the BMA).

This film title also formed part of the The Physiological Society accession via the British Medical Association film archive. In that collection the title was a single reel and has been format shifted and digitised: references provided are to access those copies already created.

Three of 27 films (a single title on three reels) which were discovered in a wooden box in the Department of Anatomy, University of Cambridge, in July 1974. Examination of the script of the titles indicates that they are at least part of the collection from the experiments of Joseph Barcroft largely on the foetus in 1939. The collection is not complete, and the films seem to have been labelled firstly by Joseph Barcroft and secondly by two other methods. The order ascribed to the collection has been attributed to D. H. Barron.

Notes provided as follows were written by Donald H. Barron and checked by Sir J. Barcroft 29th September 1977: These films appear to be those prepared for, and shown at, a lecture which Sir Joseph Barcroft gave on the spleen in Brussels some time toward the end of June 1937. There is in them a section - in ???? [illegible] - which illustrates the contraction of the spleen of the fetal lamb at birth. The only other record or reference made to this experiment is in 'The Brain and it Environment[s]'. The experiment was done with Dr T. Gotser[? illegible] who was later Professor of Phsiology at Sofia.
