About this work

Description

Location of these sculptures has not been confirmed. The frieze bears the inscription "Regio Istituto di Clinica Chirurgica". There was an institute so called in Padua. The website of the Policlinico Umberto I in Rome (accessed April 2008) mentions that the Clinica Ostetrica e Ginecologica building (building no. 35 on the campus), built between 1893 and 1897, "in origine era coronato da un timpano decorato a stucco, in seguito rimosso". If this is the same building, it is possible that the sculptures are no longer in situ or extant
