![STATUTE. Of the Admission of Bachelors of Medicine to the Degree of Doctor of Medicine. 1. Any person wlio liHS bei'U ailiiiitk'd to the Uegree i>f Baebelor of Medicine may supplicate for the Degree of Tioctor of Medicine, provided tliat lie has entered upon the tliirty-uintii Term from liis Matriculation and tliat liis name lias been on the Bool\s of some College or Hall, or on the Register of Non-Collegiate Pturtents for twenty-six Terms, and thut he has lOriUen a ilissei-talion approveil as hereinafter provided. Hvery such dissertation shall be on a subject connected witti the Science or Practice of Medicine, and must include the History and Literature of the subject treated of. 2. The dissertation shall be deliverpd to the Itegius Professor of Medicine, and shall be sub- mitted by him to and be subject to the api)roval of those Professors of the Faculty and Examiners for the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine for the time being whose special subjects are dealt with in it. 3. The dissertation shall, if the Kegius Professor of Medicine so direct, be publicly read on a day appointed hy him. If the ilissertation sliall appear to the Regius Professor and the persons to wliom it lias been submitted by him to be a work of exceptional excellence, it shall he lawful for them to recommend as a mark of distinction that it be printed and pubiished by tlio Delegates of the Press at the expense of the University. Twenty-five copies of every dissevtation so prinled shall be fiiniislied to the Secretary to tlie Board of Faculties for present atirm to Learned tiocielies and Instilntions connected icith Medicine and named hy the Board of the Facnlty. If a dissertation is printed by the candidate he shall be required to Inrnisli twenty-five copies for presentation in like manner. 4. A Candidate for the Degree of Doctor of Medicine may offer as his dissertation a a^ork already prinled or published if icrillen by him since UU'imj Ids degree or Baclieloi- of Medicine and if such printing and publication shall have taken place vilhin the I wo years inimedialely jirecediny. It gives me great pleasure to record my thanks to the ]\Iemburs of the Staff of the London Hospital for their permission to make such use of their cases as I thought fit for the composition of this Dissertation ; I hope that the treatment of the problems of Cardiac Pathology may be, in some degree, worthy of their approbation. The historical sketch is introduced in conformity with the Statute. My matter is by no means exhausted, and I hope shortly to be able to publish portions of it which bear on the clinical aspect of heart disease. FRED. J.
