About this work

Description

The military hospital, V.R. 76 was founded in 1915 by the Hon. Lady Johnstone and Mr Harold J. Reckitt. Situated at Ris-Orangis (12 miles south of Paris), treating only surgical cases, the hospital was the operating centre for a group of nine hospitals attached to it. The hospital closed in 1918

Michael Imputcha (?), age 21; 97 Regiment Infanterie The lettering is hand-written onto opposite folio Lettering continued: "Wounded at Verdun, April 11; 1916. Does not remember wound being dressed, lost his memory and aware of it, says he is eleven years old, and that his father and mother are only nineteen. His papers are from the field surgeon, Verdun. Pupils equal and react equally to light and accommodation. Eye movement normal. Field of vision normal. Plate fitted. A triumph of the surgeons craft" Folio bears number: 34
