About this work

Description

Collection of medical receipts, with a few cookery receipts: in English by several hands.

On p. 225 and p. 229 are marginal notes 'This I make Eliz. Okeover now Adderley', and some receipts, including most of the cookery receipts at the end of the volume, are endorsed 'E.O.' The main section, however, pp. 69-216, seems to have been written by an earlier owner in the last quarter of the 17th cent. There are also a few additions by early 18th cent. hands.

This manuscript and a related one (MS.7391) are discussed by Richard Aspin in "Who was Elizabeth Okeover?", Medical History, 2000, 44: 531-540.
