    BIRTHS. 8,882 births were registered during the year, equivalent to a birth rate of 21.4 per 1,000 of the population. This is a decrease of 1.4 per 1,000, compared with the preceding year, when the number registered was 9,470 and the rate 22.8. The average number registered annually during the ten years, 1922-1931, was 9.939, and the average annual birth rate 23.46.
