Description

Letters from John Wyeth & Brother, Manufacturing Chemists, Philadelphia, to Burroughs Wellcome & Co, and Henry Wellcome, as follows:

2 February, 1883. Refers to Dr Witte having just arrived, "and has gone industriously to work to acquaint himself with all the details necessary to prosecute the business in England." Hope soon to be able to ship to Burroughs Wellcome & Co machines for the manufacture of compressed pills.

10 April, 1883. Shipping on 24 April "the two automatic pill machines ordered for you, together with the lathe and portable furnace, and various tools, as selected by your Mr [Dr] Witte."

18 April, 1883. Enclosing invoice and Bill of Lading (neither present). "We wrote to you a few days ago in detail in regard to the new machines for compressing pills just shipped."

10 November, 1884. Refers to Wellcome's letter of 9 November. "Our London credits are only available against actual shipments of merchandise, and cannot therefore be made use of for cash advances."

13 November, 1884. Accounts matters.

18 December, 1884. Refers to the operation of "the automatic machine for making quinine pills.

18 January, 1885. Refers to "Fluid Extracts of Columbo, Senega, Gentian and Gentian Comp" and to machine manufacture of quinine pills.
