About this work
Description
All the photographs were taken by Geoffrey Bacon at tattoo conventions (Amsterdam, Bruges, Colchester, Dunstable, etc. 1990, 1992-3, 1995 etc.). They are unmounted colour slides (35mm film), mostly in 27 A4 sleeves each with 56 pockets (but not all pockets are full). Most of the photographs are on half of one 35mm slide film, for mounting in pairs to create a stereoscopic effect

In the absence of subject release forms, certain restrictions on access and reproduction may apply. Permission to take the photographs was obtained, but informally. The photographer recalled: "I used to ask them 'Would you mind if I take a photo?' and most of them were only too pleased to show off their tattooes – it was what they were there for"
