About this work

Description

One long letter dated 17th April 1795, manuscript but unsigned, detailing failings and abuses in the system of appointment of military medical men. The opening alludes to a previous letter in which the subject was first broached but this is not present.

The letter is endorsed "Medical Board" on the back, suggesting that this may have been the recipient of the letter; however, it begins "My Dear Sir" in the singular.

There is no indication of who the writer of the letter might be. It is possible that the copy held here is a fair copy retained by the writer for his own reference, which would explain the absence of any name at the end (indeed, of any valedictory material at all: the letter simply stops).
