    CHAPTER I. Consequences of a suspension of respiration—suspended animation contrasted with death. Common causes of Asphyxia. Rarefaction and void—symptoms induced ; remedies required. Effects of air and water and of venous blood on the nervous and muscular systems—Effects of air on the blood through the medium of the skin.
