About this work

Description

Promotional magazine insert for Sunlight Soap, issued by Lever Brothers, possibly in the 1920s. The front has a colour illustration of a boy waving his arms, wearing a large, white shirt (hiding much of his upper half) playfully chasing a frightened dog. A red haired woman in a red blouse and white apron is about to hang up a large basket of washing on a line. There is a double block of Sunlight Soap between the basket and the boy. One of the main advantages of using the detergent is that it means means no more slaving away "over steaming wash-tubs with health-destroying toil." The firm, based in Port Sunlight, originally arrived in the world of detergents in northern England in 1884 with their Sunlight Soap and are now part of the international commercial giant, Unilever.
