    <56' * April 15th. The infant extremely ill. I made him a mix- ture with a grain of emetic tartar dissolved in nine tea-spoonfuls •f boiling water, with one tea-spoonful of sugar. Of this he took half a tea-spoonful every quarter of an hour, and afterwards every half hour until half was taken. It operated mildly upwards and at last downwards : pulse l60. He has taken the breast pretty well. Mr. Canadine expected him to die last night, but I did not. 1 April 16th. Mr. Canadine called. The child rejected his Opiate, but took the breast and was a little better. ' April 17th. The child extremely ill. f April 18th. Mr. Canadine called, and took away the Ano- dyne mixture which did not agree with the child. ( April 19th. and 20th. The child in great pain, which obliged me to give him an opiate, viz. of syrup of violets two drachms, camphorated tincture of opium sixty drops, tincture of opium fen drops, water an ounce and a half, mixed: of this the child took half a tea spoonful when in great pain. This abated his pain and gave him rest. ' April 21st. The child in great pain. c April 22d. Mr. Canadine called. The child very ill. 4 April 25th. The child being in extreme pain, gave him a tea-spoonful of syrup of white poppies, at twice. * April 26th. The infant in great p3in these three days past. The place where the vaccine matter was inoculated into the arm has been very much inflamed again, much more than at first, and filled with white and yellow pus, as on the 17th, 18th, and 19th days. Since he was vaccinated it has increased to the size of a crown piece, but although it was greatly inflamed on the 9th and 10th days it seemed to die and dry away on the 11th and 12th, although on the 9th and 10th days it was not nearly so much inflamed not so much spread as it was on the 17th and 18th
