Notes

The Wellcome Library holds five prints in this series (see frame nos. 9676-9680). 'Laughter' appears twice, once in its first imprint, then its 1815 imprint, with the names of George and George Townley Stubbs removed. The series ran to 24 prints, all published in 1800, but with H. Singleton and W.F. Wells as inventors for the prints succeeding the first set of four. Their 1815 republication named C. Knight as engraver and Singleton as designer for the whole set; Knight, however, was the printer
