    % the judicious few, provided they please the multi-? tqde, As to the Editor of the Edinburgh Review, he congratulates himself on his success, and exclaims with Drunken Barnaby, “ Suavis odor lucri tenet, Parum euro unde venit.*’ The Earl of Lauderdale, in his “ Observations oq the Review of his Inquiry into the Nature and Origin of public Wealth,” in the eighth Number of the Edinburgh Review, informs us, that he should not have thought it necessary to publish them, were he pot convinced, “ that the lone of confidence and self- sufficiency which the Reviewer has assumed,, may often impose on the cursory reader ; fiat his petulant invective will gratify the malicious ; and that his comment, however ah surd, might, if allowed to pass without an answer indicate a triumph in the opinion of bothR Mr. Thelwall, whose Memoir has been grossly tra¬ duced and misrepresented by the Edinburgh Reviewer, after alluding to the forgeries committed by him iry that character, and the money which he thus obtains from the deluded public by false pretences, thinks it probable, that he may have pleaded away the lives of his fellow-beings for the perpetration of a similar crime. He next quotes the following passage from Shakespeajre; n •Who steals my purse, steals trash; 3T was mine—’t is his-—and has been slave to thousands s But he who filches from me my good name, Robs me of that which not enriches him, But makes me poor indeed.”
