About this work

Description

Is it unethical to study human genetic differences? As the British Empire spread in the 19th Century, racial groups were catalogued, with Europeans at the top. The Eugenics movement arose in Europe and in the U.S. After the Second World War the United Nations issued statements discouraging the study of racial differences and the topic has been largely avoided. This series takes a constructive look at racial differences showing why various physical and mental characteristics evolved and how studies of racial differences can explain predispositions to certain diseases as well as differences in tolerance of alcohol, sun, and high and low temperatures. Contributors include Ken Kidd(Prof of Genetics, Yale University) Robert Foley (Prof of Biological Anthropology, University of Cambridge) and Howard Oakly (Head of Survival, Institute of Naval Medicine, UK)
