About this work

Description

A "Biedermeier" interior with framed silhouette portraits and a mirror on the wall. An old hunchbacked woman with a black cat on her hump sits at a table, looking at various playing cards including the ace of hearts. Opposite are three seated ladies and a younger, standing, lady (presumably the "Dorothy" mentioned in the verses), eager to hear the old woman's interpretation of the cards
