About this work

Description

In October 2003 Patrick Savage was involved in a car crash which left him in a coma. When he awoke 3 weeks later he'd forgotten the last 16 years of his life. We join him 18 months after the accident as he undertakes a new form of therapy with top neuropsychiatrist Professor Mike Oddie. Family life has become terribly difficult and Patrick's children deeply miss their previously very family-orientated father who they refer to in retrospect as 'super dad'. However, as the programme progresses we begin to see that the family not only have an inaccurate memory of Patrick prior to the accident, they also have some quite major roles to play in Patrick's ability to recover. Patrick's wife remembers how prior to the accident Patrick was often an over-bearing man who also suffered from depression; the family now wonder if Patrick's accident was actually a deliberate suicide attempt. By the end of the programme the family have begun to pull together to attempt to see Patrick as a new person rather than attempting to re-find the old person so that they can all move on.
