    Epiphany Sessions, January 3rd, 1871. The Twenty-fifth Annual Report of the Committee of Visitors of the Devon County Lunatic Asylum, presented to the Court at Epiphany Sessions, 1871, as required by the Lunatic Asylums Act, 1854, sec. 62. We have to report at the Sessions as to the state and condition of the County Asylum, the sufficiency of proper accommodation for the Patients, the management of such Asylum, the conduct of the officers and servants thereof, and the care of the Patients therein. With reference to the state of the Asylum, we have to report that no change has taken place during the past year. The buildings are in good repair, and although in conse¬ quence of the increased value of timber, we have not yet effected some of the improvements required, and which we think very desirable, such as the, substitution of wood for asphalte floors, and the formation of additional bath rooms and lavatories, it is our intention to proceed with them forth¬ with. With regard to the sufficiency of accommodation, we have to report that the wards are still overcrowded, especially on the female side. The Secretary of State having expressly declined, as we stated in our last Report, to sanction a renewal of our contract with the authorities at Plymouth, 30 of their Patients have been removed, and the remaining six will be removed . at Lady-day next.
