About this work

Description

Rizpah the concubine had two sons with David. After they were hanged with five other Israelites by the Gibeonites in the first days of the barley harvest, Rizpah sat with the bodies day and night as the harvest progressed, "until water dropped upon them out of heaven". Soon David intervened and took what were now bones of his sons for burial. The print brings out the mouldering blur of flesh and bone under the twilight of moon and rising dawn
