Description

Letters on the truths contained in popular superstitions (Frankfurt am Main and Edinburgh, 1849). Author's annotated copy, containing manuscript emendations and additions, some of which were incorporated in the second edition, published in 1851.

The volume includes a number of leaves at the end of the printed text, bearing additional notes and contemporary press cuttings, mainly relating to mesmerism.

On the front fly-leaf are some humorous pen sketches of facial profiles.
