Lettering

Mort du Général de Montcalme. Vatteau del. Martini sculp. Bears number: 44 Extensive lettering beneath describes the general's death, and names the people attending, including Louis Antoine de Bougainville. Montcalm asks to be buried in a hole made by a shell; two other dead soldiers are being carried on stretchers into the hole. Left foreground, two Native Americans remove the exploded shell. The death of James Wolfe is shown in the distance, and the Saint Lawrence River beyond
