Description

Connected with preparatory drawings for the English translation of J.C. Lavater's Essays on physiognomy, trans. H. Hunter, London: 1789-1798. This design has not been recognised among the published engravings

Thomas Holloway (1748-1827) supervised the artwork for the English version of the book. This included re-engraving many of the works from the original German and French publications. This series of designs (frame nos. 9326T-9551) are mostly preparations for the English version
