Description
Photograph of Epidaurus, Greece, site of the temple of Aesculapius. The ramp in the centre is where the entry to the temple was. It was constructed to enable bed-ridden patients to be wheeled into the temple. The photograph was taken in 1930 by Captain Johnston-Saint, a Wellcome Historical Medical Museum employee who travelled extensively in Europe, the Middle East and India purchasing items for the museum.
