About this work

Description

This image was created with acrylic on canvas to depict the effects of a migraine. This image shows a barn produced at a time when the migraines suffered by the artist began to lessen and, therefore, the impact of the migraine, though ever present, was less debilitating as indicated by the subdued colours. The bright vibrant colours were causing visual stress, therefore the barn was painted in less challenging colours, subtle colours, used to show a link with the earthyness of the barn and it's resilience to adversity, be it weather, time, or lack of upkeep. This image was used in an experiment to measure the visual impact of the colours used and showed that it was not necessarily the colours that caused the visual disturbance but the distrubution of colours and tones.
