(Report for 1897, p. 33) in 1897, i'2,007 15s. (Report for 1898, p. 33) in 1898 and T2,150 (Report tor I 1899, p. 39) in 1H99,T2,176 (is. 2d. in 1900 (Report for 1900, p. 39), and 1:2,251 13s. 4d. in 1901 (Report for 1901, p. 37) to the Medical College out pf the general funds of the Hospital, and no account whatever of what becomes of the money is to be found in the reports of either Hospital or College.** It is true that the College pays a rent of i.‘4G4 16s. lOd. (Report for year 1901, p. 34) to the Hospital, leaving a sulistantial balance in its own favour. The ' Hospital has lent the College £11,355 13s. lid. (Report for 1901, 39) but INIr. Sydney Holland informs me that the interest on this sum is included in the income account under the heading of interest. The College, therefore, has received from the Hospital funds during j the last live years, i'10,608 4s. 6d., which has been simply trans- ferred to it, and has also received £11,355 13s. lid. as a loan. ! The College, which has thus absorbed since 1897 no less a sum than I 1;'21,963 18s. 5d., publishes no accounts whatever of what has become ! of this money. King Edward’s Fund makes a grant of £5,0CK) a I year to this Hospital. In this instance, the grant is qualified j by a specific hypothecation to the defraying of the cost of .structural alterations not connected with the College. (Letter of Sir Francis Knollys to Mr. Coleridge, 30th April, 1898.) Mr. F'urnivall is not licensed to perform experiments at the Medical College attached to this Hospital. Mr. Hunter, though not other- wise connected with the Hospital or College, was licensed to perform experiments at the Medical College attached to this Hospital in 19(X) and 1901.
