    1 ANNALS OF, &c. 285 fuppofed to be now feventeen weeks preg- nant for the firft time, after a fright and lome fatigue, began to pafs her urine with difficulty, which, fince the beginning of Ja- jc, nuary, gradually increafed till the 28th, when Us there was a total fuppreffion of urine and oUsi ftools. I faw her for the firft time, Tuefda% the 29th of January, in the evening ; the belly was prominent, hard, circumfcribed, re- fembling a pregnancy of feven months ; fhe complained principally of a pain at the na- vel, which Ihe could not bear being touched ; fhe vomited frequently; clyfters returnedim-, mediately, when attempted to be injedted; the legs and thighs were exceedingly cede- matous. On examining per vaginam, 1 found / the pelvis filled with a tumor, which fcarcely left room for a finger to pafs between it and the ofla pubis; I could not reach the os ute- ri ; the meatus urinarius was fo far retraced, A that it was difficult to introduce a flexible ca- theter, which could not be puflied over. The 1 tumor in the pelvis felt as if containing a ) fluid ; on preffing it back from the fymphyfis pubis ; the urine gufhed out.
