Notes

Dated: Autumn 2016
"I am 27 years old and I've been out, to various levels, as a girl-loving girl since my mid-teens. I am privileged in that my day-to-day existence as a queer woman is comfortable - my family love me, I hve a bunch of supportive friends and I work at an organisation with a strong commitment to social justice. I have never been the victim of physically violent homophobia or discriminated against in a material sense. However, the more I have examined the experiences I have had in my life, the more I have realised the extent to which heterosexism and homophobia and the resulting microaggressions have affected my life, impacted on confidence, self-esteem, self-worth, goals and dreams. I wanted to make this zine for two reasons. Firstly, for queer women/femme non-binary people to contribute to and read something which they can relate to, a space in which we can come together to understand the experiences which underpin so much of who we are. Secondly, I wanted this zine to exist so straight (primarily cisgender) people have the ability to understand to some extent the reactions and emotions we have built into us as a result of heterosexism and homophobia, and for queer men and masculine nonbinary people to understand the way gender (and perceived gender) interacts with experiences of heterosexism and homophobia."--Pages [1-2].
