About this work

Also known as

Feast of Lazarus
Le festin de Lazare

Description

In the first state (unpublished), the background contained the feast of Dives, with servants bearing dishes of fruit and a lutenist. In the second state, the feast disappeared and was replaced by elders or priests watching the lame beggars from an elevated postion on the church steps. The elders are in archaic dress, while the beggars wear clothes contemporary with the print. The beggars are similar to those in an etching by Brangwyn made in the previous year, 1907 (Catalogue of the etched work of Frank Brangwyn, London 1912, nos. 99-101)
