Description

Notebook. Kept by William Carr (b. 1715) from 1739, with additions by his son and grandson to 1813. In the hand of William Carr (b. 1715) are a list of wards [in Guy's Hospital] with the number of beds in each; 'Pharmacopoeia Nosocomii Thomae Guy', n.d.; notes on variolation, Feb. 1752; and notes and transcripts from published pharmacopoeias and other medical works (ff. 1-22, 25-34r., 50-81). Added by William Carr (1745-1821) are prescriptions, Jan.-April 1773 and n.d.; and miscellaneous notes, 1813 and n.d. (ff. 23, 34v., 82v.-87v.). Added by William Carr (1785-1861) are notes from medical journals, 1800 and n.d. (ff. 35-47). The end papers bear the signatures of each generation of the family, and also that of a fourth generation, William Carr (1828-1905), FRCS.
