Cells showing serotonin transporter protein

Cultured cells stained to show the serotonin transporter protein in blue. This is the protein responsible for the reuptake of serotonin from the synaptic cleft and is the target of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class of antidepressant drugs.
