About this work
Description
According to the state with engraved lettering, engraved after a drawing owned by the Earl of Bute after a painting by Reni owned by Charles Slingsby Duncombe (d. 1803). Bute could be either the 3rd Earl, who died on 10 March 1792, i.e. later than the death of the engraver J.K. Sherwin on 20 September 1790. Alternatively it would be the 4th Earl, who was Earl of Bute at the date given on this print, 1 March 1793
