Correspondence regarding the First AMBO (Asian Molecular Biology Organization) Symposium on 'The Future of Nucleic Acid Research', held at Kyoto International Conference Hall, Kyoto, Japan, 30 November - 4 December, 1981.

Crick provided the Symposium's "Opening Remarks" and chaired Session 1 ('DNA Structure and Protein-Nucleic Acid Interactions'). The file contains notes (holograph) and draft text (typescript) for the "Opening Remarks," subsequently published as "Introduction," Mizobuchi, Watanabe and Watson (eds.), Nucleic Acid Research: Future Development (Tokyo, 1983), 1-7.

Also included in the file are:

full programme details;
a poster (A2) for the Symposium;
a pad of notes (holograph, 14 sheets, remaining leaves blank) made by Crick during the course of the Symposium;
and a colour photograph (approx 3" x 4") showing Crick and three colleagues standing.

The correspondence records that Crick was sent the gift of a DNA model (Maruzen Company), and notes in his reply that it "now occupies a prominent place in my study" and that it is "the only model of DNA I have" (Crick to T Totsumoto, Maruzen Company, 28 January, 1982).
