Birth-Rate.—In 1944 the figure of 20.6 per 1,000 of the population was the highest for many years, and compares favourably with that for England and Wales, viz., 17.6. Death-Rate.—4Te rate of 12.2 per 1,000 was slightly above that for England and Wales, viz., 11.6. Infant Mortality.—28 per 1,000 births, is well below the figure for the whole country, viz., 46. B.
