    Unfortunately during the year a period of bad trade was experienced, this was shown in the contributions received from the various firms, in the case of four of the large firms the amounts received showed a total decrease of £533. Services to Patients. This item showed a decrease on the previous year, the total amount received from all sources being £4,370 15s. 2d., as com¬ pared with £4,976 15s. 4d. ; a decrease of £60 3 Os. 2d. This is explained by the decrease in payments received from Sunnyside Patients. In 1937 the receipts from this source were £1,590 5s. 4d., as compared with £976 11s. 9d. in 1938, being a decrease cf £613 13s. 7d. Expenditure. 1938 £ s. d. 1937 £ s. d. The total expenditure for the year was £20,016 9s. 8d., as compared with £18,314 12s. Id., being an increase of £1,701 17s. 7d. Provisions. The expenditure on Provisions during the year was £4,044 10s. Id., as compared with £3,930 16s. 10d., in the previous year. This increase is explained by the increase in the number of in-patients treated, and also by the increased cost of commodities during the year. Surgery and Dispensary. The expenditure on Surgery and Dispensary increased by £343 10s. 5d. The increase in the number of in and out-patients necessitating the use of extra Dressings, Bandages, etc., is responsible for the increase, together with the fact that several new appliances were purchased during the year. Domestic. The expenditure under this heading was £3,307 13s. 8d., as compared with £3,239 10s. 4d.
