Description

Black and white photograph of a plaster cast of a seated Greek physician and patient with Aesculapius (or Asklepios), the deity associated with healing and medicine holding the Rod of Asclepius, on the left-hand side. The plaque is based on an intaglio gem from approximately 350 B.C. The item was previously part of the Wellcome Historical Medical Museum but is not held by Wellcome Collection.
