About this work

Description

Presentation sheet of 5 stamps or gummed stickers commemorating 85 years (1864-1949) of the French Red Cross and the second national congress of its first aid teams, in Mulhouse, France. Unclear as to whether these were actual postage stamps, though each has 'France' in the upper left corner. Each stamp has an engraved portrait (Institut de Graveurs) of one of the founders : Gustave Moynier, Théodore Maunoir, Henri Dunant, Général G.-H. Dufour and Louis Appia. Printed in red and what appears to be a very dark green, but may be black that has changed with age.
