About this work

Description

Interior of a long, high building with white plaster walls and a pitched wooden ceiling. There are six beds on each side; in each, a man of military service age. Above each bed is a framed picture suspended from the wall at a steep angle; below each bed a pair of boots. On the right, between the beds, are high glazed doors or windows letting in the sunlight. On the end wall, two pictures and a clock. In the centre, standing by a table, is a nurse. Possibly in France?
